Johnny Winter - Johnny Winter Story, The (8-Track Cartridge, Album)

 · Johnny Winter is a most intense bluesman whose work has been scattered over various labels. This definitive track collection includes music from 27 separate albums released under the imprints Liberty/Imperial, Columbia, Blue Sky/Epic, Alligator, Point Blank/Virgin, Friday Music, Collectors’ Choice, Megaforce, and Columbia/Legacy.

This set illustrates the titular Story just about as well as possible. The choices of when to use studio material versus live material are all spot on. A full 25% of the set is devoted to Johnny Winter And, the "And" being Rick Derringer with his McCoys; this is my favorite period of Johnny Winter's albums/5().

He was born John Dawson Winter III on Febru, in Beaumont, Texas, where his brother Edgar Winter was born on Decem; both brothers were albinos. They turned to music early on, Johnny Winter learning to play the guitar, while Edgar Winter took up keyboards and saxophone.

 · There has always been more to the Johnny Winter story than meets the eye, and if stepping into the role of a whirlwind albino electric blues guitar player from Texas with a brilliant slide style was the very role he was born to fill, he took a while to get there. For starters, he was born in Mississippi, which might explain something, and then grew up in Texas, where he played clarinet before.
